Historical Background
The Korean Community Service Center (formerly called Korea Community Counseling Center) was founded on August 19, 1983 by five compassionate and devoted women: Dr. Qwihee Park; Rev. Jean Kim, MSW; Mrs. Sonia Kim, MSW; Mrs. Ji Sook Lee, BS; and Mrs. Seungja Yun, MLS.
These founders realized that there were immediate and urgent needs for social services for the newly arrived Korean American immigrants, who faced language, cultural, financial barriers.
In the beginning of KCCC, these five founding members as well as others in the Korean community were inspired and motivated by the late Dr. Tae Young Lee, the first woman Attorney in Korea and the founder of the Korean Family Legal Service in Seoul, Korea.
